The grounding stones are a great visual reminder when using the 5,4,3,2,1 grounding technique. It works by heightening your senses to the environment around you and helps to re-focus from any negative/anxious thoughts. 

5 things you can see (look at smaller objects too).
4 four things you can touch. Look around for things with texture such as cardboard, bubble wrap, clothing material and notice colour and pattern.
3 things you can hear. This could be cars, birds, the tv or your own breathing.
2 things you can smell. It may be something near you, or feel free to move around, or outside if you can - flowers or grass. Maybe there is something in a cupboard?
1 thing you can taste. This could be thinking of the last thing you ate or drank, or your favourite food.

*They can also be used by choosing one different pebble each morning and using this as something to focus on throughout the day.

As with any new technique, these are better practiced when the mind is calm, so children feel the benefit when it is most needed. If they have a particular worry, they are then able to look at this with a more rational thought process.

The stones (made from recycled glass) are designed by myself using a decoupage technique.
